Canada e-Tourism Council
Mandate
The Canadian E-Tourism Council is an independent forum of leading Canadian travel and tourism leaders, marketing executives, and e-commerce experts, representing the various segments and verticals of the Canadian travel and tourism industry. The Canadian E-Tourism Council is not a committee of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), nor a committee of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC).
The mandate of the Canada e-Tourism Council is to debate and collaborate on how Canada’s travel and tourism organizations can leverage the internet, emerging technologies, CRM strategies, and new media platforms, in order to better market and sell Canada as a tourism destination to the world as well as domestically.
Duties/Responsibilities
Activities/initiatives that are undertaken by the Canada e-Tourism Council include:
- Participate in and be part of the Canada-e-Connect e-Tourism Strategy Conference organizing committee (suggest speakers, content, topics, sponsors, as well as promote the event)
- Participate on the Judging Panel of the first Canadian e-Tourism Awards (during Canada-e-Connect)
- Provide a forum to discuss e-marketing related issues.
- Maintain ethics and integrity standards when serving on the Canada e-Tourism Council.
Membership
The Canada e-Tourism Council is chaired by Jens Thraenhart, Executive Director of E-Marketing & CRM of the Canadian Tourism Commission. Initial membership is appointed by the chair for a period of two years. Resigning or leaving members are replaced upon recommendation by the council, and appointed by the chair.
The council attempts to have representation from the major travel verticals and tourism organizations in Canada. This will include: CTC, PMOs, DMOs, Air, Hotel, Car, Rail, OTA, Tour, Media, and SMEs.
Upon approval from the Canada e-Tourism Council, other individuals can attend meetings but as ex-officio members (for example suppliers, consultants, etc.).
Canada e-Tourism Council membership varies by division, and can include management, communications, marketing, public relations and technical staff. It is strongly advised that the representative be directly involved in the planning/development of websites and/or e-marketing activities/initiatives.
